Which Zed plan is right for me?

Our Personal plan is for users who want a best-in-class code editor without AI capabilities, or for users who prefer to use their own keys/external agents. Our Pro plan comes with Zed hosted models out of the box. Our Business plan is for teams that need centralized control over how Zed is used.

What's the difference between Pro and Business?

Pro is for individual developers: it comes with Zed-hosted AI models and unlimited Edit Predictions. Business is an org-level layer on top of that, not a replacement. Members can hold their own Pro subscriptions. What Business adds is the admin layer – org-wide controls over AI features, data sharing policies, and unified billing across every seat.

Do Business seats include AI credits?

Business seats don't bundle a fixed LLM credit allotment. You can use Zed-hosted AI at standard usage rates, or bring your own API keys from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and others – in which case spend goes directly to your provider. Some teams already have existing AI contracts; Zed can run through them without requiring you to switch or double up.

Is there a minimum seat count for Business?

No minimum. Business is self-serve and available to organizations of any size. Month-to-month plans are available to everyone. Order form contracts are available at 25+ seats – reach out to [email protected].

Can I trial Business before committing?

Business doesn't currently have a free trial. You can start on a monthly plan and cancel at any time. For larger teams, reach out to [email protected] – we're happy to discuss options.

What admin controls are available in Business?

From dashboard.zed.dev, Business admins can restrict or disable Zed-hosted AI models by model, turn off Edit Predictions org-wide, and lock data sharing settings so members can't override them. Since Zed is open source, these controls govern Zed's hosted services specifically.

SSO, SAML, and SCIM are planned but not currently available.

How does the free trial work?

We offer a two week free trial of our Pro plan which comes with $20 of token credits and unlimited accepted edit predictions. To start your trial, make sure you're logged in, and then visit your Account page to upgrade. The trial ends once you've used up your prompts or the two weeks pass–whatever comes first.

Note that Anthropic's Opus models are not available in the free trial, even though they are available in Zed Pro.

What is a token?

A token is a unit of text processed by an LLM (roughly 3–4 characters of English text). With token-based billing, you’re only charged for the text your prompts and responses actually consume. Costs vary by model, but Zed Pro bills at API list price +10% for hosted usage. See the full list of models and prices here.

What happens if I exceed Pro's $5 token credits?

Once you use up your included monthly credits, you’ll be billed for additional token usage at API list price +10%. We’ll charge either at the end of the month or for every additional $10 incurred, whichever comes first. You can also set a spending cap to manage costs.

I don't want to pay for Zed, can I use my own keys?

Yes you can! We currently support Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic, GitHub Copilot, Deepseek, Google AI, LM Studio, Mistral, Ollama, OpenAI, OpenRouter, Vercel, and more. Learn how to set them up by visiting the LLM providers docs.

Can I use Zed without the AI features?

Yes! Zed is first and foremost a code editor with blazing-fast performance, true multiplayer collaboration, and a focus on developer productivity. You can disable all AI features if you'd like to.
