South by Southwest® (SXSW®) today announced that Claudette Godfrey, VP, Film & TV, is stepping down from her role leading the SXSW Film & TV Festival after nearly 20 years with the organization. Peter Debruge, Chief Film Critic at Variety, has been named Director of the SXSW Film & TV Festival and will assume the role beginning April 6.
Godfrey has helped guide the SXSW Film & TV Festival & Conference through a period of sustained growth and evolution. During her tenure with the organization, she has championed boundary-pushing storytelling and supported emerging filmmakers such as Janicza Bravo, the Safdie brothers, and the Daniels, whose film Everything Everywhere All at Once world-premiered at SXSW and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. Through her work, Godfrey helped shape SXSW into a launchpad for some of the most exciting projects in film and television today.
“Claudette has been an integral part of SXSW for many years, and her leadership has helped shape what the Film & TV Festival is today,” said Greg Rosenbaum, SVP of Programming at SXSW. “She has built a program that is both globally relevant and deeply rooted in discovery, and we’re incredibly grateful for her contributions.”
Peter Debruge will assume leadership of the festival, bringing decades of experience covering and shaping the global film industry. He joins SXSW from Variety, where he spent 20 years and served as the third ever Chief Film Critic in the brand's more than 100-year history, writing more than 2,000 reviews and covering major international film festivals for the last decade. Debruge was knighted by France in the Order of Arts and Letters for his work. As a leading voice in film criticism and programming, Debruge brings a deep understanding of both global cinema and the evolving media landscape.
The role also marks a return to Texas for Debruge, who grew up in Waco and studied film at the University of Texas at Austin. Early in his career, he co-edited the entertainment section of The Daily Texan alongside former SXSW Film head Matt Dentler and contributed to The Austin Chronicle, where he covered SXSW in the late 1990s. He brings a longstanding connection to the event and the Austin creative community, along with experience serving on juries at festivals including Cannes, São Paulo, and Reykjavik, and as a co-founder of the Animation Is Film Festival.
“Peter brings a unique perspective and a deep passion for storytelling that aligns closely with SXSW’s mission,” said Jenny Connelly, Director in Charge at SXSW. “We’re excited for him to build on the strong foundation that Claudette established and lead the festival into its next chapter.”
“There’s a certain poetry to this appointment, which brings me back to the festival that is nearest and dearest to my heart, in the place I spent my formative years,” said Debruge. “I’ve been attending SXSW for nearly three decades during which time, I've seen SXSW grow and evolve into a world-class film festival. I'm in awe and admiration of the groundbreaking creative work done by Matt Dentler, Janet Pierson and Claudette Godfrey, and am honored to be joining the team to carry forward SXSW’s legacy of championing visionary voices. I will be eternally grateful to Variety for 20 incredible years, which taught me so much about the film industry and allowed me to travel the world, from Tokyo to Cannes, discovering all the great filmmakers (and festivals) the world has to offer.”

PETE TONG has for generations of electronic music fans around the world, been the definitive voice of the scene for decades. But don’t ever think of Pete Tong as part of the establishment. In fact, throughout his varied and astonishing career, he’s been a catalyst, a genuine agent for change. And it’s all based around a simple yet relentless personal mission: to find great music and talent, and to share it with as many people as possible.
Take the Ibiza Classics project, the globally touring, live orchestral extravaganza that’s seen Tong and collaborators Jules Buckley taking electronic music to another dimension. Initially conceived as a one-off for the Proms classical music festival in 2015, translating some of the most loved dance music anthems for an orchestra to celebrate 20 years of Radio One in Ibiza, the way that Classics caught the imagination shocked even Pete: “I went to Manchester to go on breakfast TV to launch it. And by the time I came back on the train to London, we'd sold 18,000 tickets.” The original core of the idea was to reach those ravers for whom going out to clubs all night was no longer a realistic option. “Life catches up,” says Pete. “But it doesn't mean you fall out of love with the music. Those songs; ‘Promised Land’, or ‘Your Love’, ‘Cafe Del Mar’: to some people they're just as important as the Beatles or the Rolling Stones. If you were there on the dance floor at, say, Space in Ibiza, they’re in your soul for the rest of your life.”
Today, global music authority Billboard announced a partnership with BetterHelp, naming the world’s largest therapy platform as its first-ever Official Mental Health Partner. At the center of the partnership is the launch of “Like Minded,” a brand-new video series featuring unexpected artist pairings—whether from different decades, musical genres, or creative backgrounds—engaging in authentic, emotional conversations. Guided by BetterHelp’s clinical leaders and licensed therapists, the series kicked off with a special live panel featuring Grammy® Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician, Corinne Bailey Rae and R&B singer and songwriter Ravyn Lenae at the Billboard House during SXSW on Saturday, March 14.
The collaboration establishes a year-long platform dedicated to connecting music and mental health, aligning with key editorial moments and original storytelling throughout 2026. The pairings will explore their personal perspectives on mental health, sharing how their struggles and the industry landscape have evolved across different eras, genres, and stages of their careers.
The live conversation was hosted by BetterHelp’s Vice President of Clinical Quality and Innovation, Russell DuBois, PhD, joined by Billboard’s Delisa Shannon. The intimate discussion focused on how artists from different musical backgrounds and generations approach mental health, introducing audiences to the themes and format of the series by examining how they have overcome hardships and the options available for bettering mental health.
“If you do have people in your life...whether they’re in the family or whether they’re friends or a professional, I think it’s so useful to be able to let these feelings out in a real healthy way,” said Rae.
When reflecting on the pressures of keeping up with her own success and asking for help, Lenae shared her own positive experience with therapy over the past year, noting, "I definitely enjoyed having the ritual and just talking through my day to day. I think that’s something really special to do, especially if you feel like you’re getting something really good back.”
The series aims to provide viewers with a full scope of the human experience through the lens of music. Following the live preview, the first episode featuring Corinne Bailey Rae and Ravyn Lenae will officially launch on Billboard’s digital platforms later this March.
“Like Minded” will deliver a fresh creative approach to mental health conversations that keep audiences engaged and connected.
“Music has always been a powerful force for connection,” said Dana Droppo, Chief Brand Officer, Billboard. “We’re proud to partner with BetterHelp as our first-ever Official Mental Health Partner to create meaningful conversations around mental health that support artists, fans, and the broader creative community.”
“Music shapes culture and culture shapes how we talk about mental health,” said Sara Brooks, Chief Growth Officer at BetterHelp. “Through ‘Like Minded,’ the candid conversations we’re facilitating between high-profile artists and licensed therapists help underscore a simple truth: no matter who you are or how big your stage is, everyone needs support sometimes. We’re proud to partner with Billboard to help reduce stigma and further normalize therapy as a proactive, everyday form of care.”
Beyond the video series, Billboard and BetterHelp will collaborate on a dedicated digital hub that brings together all related content. The destination will feature episodes of “Like Minded,” expanded editorial coverage, and curated Billboard stories focused on mental health, creating an accessible, ongoing resource for audiences engaging with these conversations.
BetterHelp’s involvement in the music space is rooted in the belief that music and creative expression can open the door to important conversations about mental health. By meeting people where they are—whether at a festival or through their favorite artist’s story—BetterHelp continues its mission to make professional, affordable, and tailored therapy a convenient reality for everyone.

ABOUT RILEY GREEN
ACM and CMA Award winner, Riley Green has been compelling Country music fans to raise a drink, shed a tear, and, above all, celebrate where they are from, since first releasing his self-titled EP in 2018. His songs like the No. 1 2X-PLATINUM hit “There Was This Girl,” the 3X-PLATINUM-certified heart-tugger “I Wish Grandpas Never Died,” and his chart-topping collab with Thomas Rhett, “Half Of Me,” have made Riley synonymous with what Country Music does best: making listeners feel something with his no-gimmick, relatable writing and classic feel. An avid sports fan, former athlete (Jacksonville State University quarterback) and outdoorsman, Riley is riding a wave of success after receiving four Academy of Country Music awards, being previously named a MusicRow Breakout Artist of the Year, a CMT “Listen Up Artist,” and one of CRS’s 2020 New Faces. Combs joined Riley on his PLATINUM No. 1 single “Different ‘Round Here (Ft. Luke Combs),” the title track to Riley’s 2019 debut album that he re-recorded with Combs after seeing how fans connected to it. The singer-songwriter’s third studio album, Don't Mind If I Do, produced by Dann Huff, arrived on his birthday, October 18, via Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment, with more of the signature Riley Green fans have come to know and love from the good ol’ boy who still lives in his hometown of Jacksonville, AL. Most recently, Green released the deluxe version, Don’t Mind If I Do (Deluxe), which includes six brand new tracks. Currently on an incredible hot streak, Green’s well-earned confidence in his work shines through across the 18-track set with five of the tracks being solely written including standouts “Jesus Saves,” the 3X-PLATINUM “Worst Way” and the title track—which finds Green reuniting with his “you look like you love me” duet partner. Please see dates and learn more at rileygreenmusic.com.
