Jivraj Park bridge murder case: 3 held from Banaskantha, 1 absconding

In a major breakthrough in the sensational Rajivnagar murder case, the city police arrested three accused involved in the brutal killing of Natu Parmar, 52. Parmar was attacked under the Jivraj Park bridge last week. One accused, however, is still on the run. The accused hit the victim 36 times in just 21 seconds with iron pipes and sticks  as part of a deep-rooted family dispute, police said. Following the incident, Anandnagar Police, along with the Zone-7 Local Crime Branch (LCB),  reached Dantiwada in Banaskantha district, where the accused had taken shelter. While Hasmukh Vaghela (34), Kanti alias Kanu alias Leli Vana (46), and Bhavesh Parmar (36) were arrested, the fourth accused, Ketan Dhulaji Galchot, remains absconding. Dispute turned fatal Interrogation revealed that the murder was triggered by ongoing tensions between Natu’s son, Kaushik Parmar, and his wife, Malvika Thakor, who had a love marriage four years ago. Six months prior to the incident, Malvika had returned to her parental home following marital discord. The situation escalated further due to a dispute over her abortion. Investigators said resentment over this issue drove Malvika’s relatives to target Natu in an act of revenge. Planned escape Police officials said the main accused, Hasmukh, Malvika’s maternal uncle, hatched the conspiracy after a failed reconciliation attempt. After executing the murder, the accused fled to Banaskantha and kept shifting locations, hiding in small lodges and temples to evade arrest. Despite these efforts, police tracked them down and arrested three accused. AM

Govt employees from Ahmedabad top offenders list

A four-day helmet enforcement drive by the State Traffic Branch (STB) that also focused on government employees has thrown up a startling trend. State employees in Ahmedabad and Vadodara emerged as the top violators of mandatory helmet norms for two-wheeler riders among all  government employees of the state. The drive, from May 1 to 4 across Gujarat, saw 183 government employees in Ahmedabad being booked for riding without helmets. In comparison, 8,345 private two-wheeler riders were also fined during the same period. Authorities recovered a total of Rs 41.96 lakh in fines from violators in the city. Vadodara ranked second, with 123 government employees penalised, along with 2,424 private riders. Banaskantha district took the third spot, where 119 government employees and 735 private riders were booked.  Statewide figures paint an even bigger picture: 1,237 government employees and 27,176 private two-wheeler riders were penalised during the four-day drive, with total fines reaching Rs 77 lakh. DGP KLN Rao said the campaign was meant to send a message that no one is above the law. “The idea is to ensure that even government officials follow traffic norms. Wearing a helmet is not a burden; it is a life-saving measure in case of accidents. Such drives will continue, and surprise checks will be intensified,” he stated. Traffic expert Amit Khatri pointed out that Gujarat still lags behind other states in strict helmet enforcement. “In states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, helmet rules are strictly enforced, and even pillion riders must comply. In Gujarat, riders still take a casual approach, despite helmets being proven lifesavers,” he said.  Meanwhile, the state police are now shifting focus to another high-risk group, delivery riders working for online platforms.

Bihar gangster orchestrated Rs 50L Surat bank robbery

In a dramatic breakthrough, the Surat Crime Branch has exposed a high‑tech criminal network behind the sensational Rs 50‑lakh robbery in Varachha, allegedly directed from inside Bihar’s Adarsh Central Jail, Beur. Mastermind Kundan Kumar alias Kundan Bhagat, currently lodged in Patna, is accused of orchestrating the heist through a mobile application, issuing precise instructions to his gang. The April 27 robbery was timed to coincide with the Surat Municipal Corporation elections, exploiting reduced police presence. The gang surveyed nearly 10 banks before selecting the SBI branch in Varachha, where metro work had slowed activity. Members rented houses in Jahangirpura and Ved Road using forged IDs from Madhya Pradesh. Investigators revealed the gang operated under multiple aliases, with members unfamiliar to each other beyond partial facial images. On the day of the crime, they entered the bank early posing as customers, photographing staff and conducting reconnaissance. Though equipped to loot Rs 2–3 crore with five large bags, they fled with Rs 50 lakh. Three getaway bikes were later abandoned near Kim village before the gang dispersed across states. An extensive manhunt involving analysis of over 1,000 CCTV cameras led to the arrest of Shubham Kumar, Ajit Thakur and Vikas Singh Arun Kumar Singh in UP. Shubham was wanted in multiple serious cases. Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut confirmed recovery of Rs 93,000 cash and mobile phones. Teams are now in Bihar seeking transit remand of Kundan Bhagat.
